Wawrinka stunned by Anderson at Queen's

Thursday, June 18 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Stan Wawrinka fought off five match points but could not stop falling to a fourth successive defeat to Kevin Anderson, slipping out of the Aegon Championships in the second round as Gilles Simon beat Thanasi Kokkinakis.

    Script:

The green grass of Queen's is a different test to the clay of paris and Stan Wawrinka will have to continue to adjust after he was knocked out by big serving Kevin Anderson.

After losing a tight opening set on a tiebreak, the French Open champion did show glimpses of the form that took him to the title at Roland Garros earlier this month. His one-handed backhand is one of the game's finest shots.

But Anderson, who knocked out Leyton Hewitt in the first round showed just how dangerous he is on this surface.

He hit 22 aces altogether as he took the second set on another tiebreak.

Up next, the winner of Alex Dolgopolov and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the quarter-finals.

Seventh-seeded Gilles Simon of France found things much more straight forward.

He came through against Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-4, 6-2 to book his place in the quarters. But its a tough assignment - Milos Raonic awaits.
