    Seven-time tournament winner Roger Federer and third seed Tomas Berdych were straight sets winners in the second round of the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany. Florian Mayer and Ivo Karlovic also went through.

    He's won this event 7 times. No wonder Roger Federer looks so comfortable on the grass courts at Halle. And he took a step closer to yet another title with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Ernests Gulbis.

    After winning the first set 6-3, Federer took the second 7-5 to book his quarter final sport against Florian Mayer, a player he's beaten in each of their five previous meetings.

    Mayer came through after beating American Steve Johnson in straight sets to the delight of the home crowd.

    Another player who is at home on the grass is Tomas Berdych, and he secured his quarter final spot, beating Borna Coric 6-3, 6-2,

    The one-time Wimbledon runner-up showcased some impressive serve-volleying as he reached the quarters

    And Berdych will face another Croatian in the last eight, big-hitting Ivo Karlovic.

    The 8th seed is nearly 7 feet tall. He fired down 21 aces as he beat Alexander Zverev in three sets.
