Frenchman Gregory Bourdy shoots a seven under par 65 to lead the Lyoness Open by two shots in Atzenbrugg, Austria

The Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg, near Vienna, played host to the first round of the Lyoness Open .

Conditions appeared benign, but the fairways were hard and the ball was running - that caused a few problems and Austria's own Bernd Wiesberger struggled badly.

The 2012 winner and runner-up last year shot a seven over par 79 with no birdies in his round at all.

Max Kieffer, who tied for third place at last week's Nordea Masters in Sweden, brought that form with him with shots like this approach to the 8th. He carded a five under par round of 67 putting him in a four-way tie for second place on the leaderboard.

Also at five under par is England's Robert Dinwiddie, who made his first cut of the year last week in Sweden.

Fellow countryman Chris Wood is also tied for second at five under.

Wood won a BMW i8 for his hole-in-one at Wentworth and although he wasn't quite as accurate here at the sixth, he holed the putt.

That was one of six birdies with just one dropped shot - at the par five 16th.

Spain's Carlos del Moral completes the quartet at five under par.

Del Moral has yet to win on the European Tour, but the 29 year-old from Valencia is well placed to put an end to that stat over the weekend.

The performance of the day though came from another Frenchman, Gregory Bourdy.

Bourdy pocketed seven birdies and didn't drop a single shot on his way to a 65, seven under par and leads the way by two shots going into Friday's second round.
