With its start delayed by heavy rain on day one (8th June), the Mercedes Cup continued at Stuttgart's Tennis Club Weissenhof on Tuesday.

Switched from a clay-court event to grass for 2015, it is now a good warm-up for the Wimbledon Championships.

Bernard Tomic reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals in 2011. And the 22-year-old Australian eased into round two in Stuttgart with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff.

    The match lasted 71 minutes.

Despite Struff's defeat, there was German success on Tuesday.

Wild card Alexander Zverev, the younger brother of Mischa Zverev - who also advanced, rallied to beat Croatian qualifier Mate Pavic 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Eighth-seeded Serbian Viktor Troicki is up next in round two.
