  • Intro:

International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach warns FIFA that reform will be a painful process as he addresses an IOC Executive Board Meeting (EBM) in Lausanne, Switzerland on Monday (8th June).

    Script:

SOUNDBITE (English) Thomas Bach, IOC President:

"We can only encourage FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) to continue the way of reforms which obviously have been initiated. We cannot give advice as to what to do in detail, but we appreciate that there is the readiness obviously for reforms now and for substantial reforms. And we also know from our experience that the other part of the job that means putting everything on the desk can be a painful experience, but it is absolutely necessary to do this. As we have seen from our own history, because there I am convinced that only by doing this at the time the IOC could restore its credibility."

SOUNDBITE (English) Thomas Bach, IOC President:

"Corruption issues we had 15 years ago were related to the election of Olympic host cities only. Here in FIFA you see many other facets - if it may not be the correct English word - but you see many other allegations with regard to TV rights, with regard even to sponsoring rights, of the national federations and many others."
