The Diamond League meeting in Birmingham was without Mo Farah, he cited fatigue as the reason following doping claims made about his coach Alberto Salazar.
However, there was still plenty of excitement as Greg Rutherford jumped 8.35 metre to win the long jump event.
The men's 100 metres was lacking star names but American Marvin Bracy set a new personal best of 9.93 seconds to win from Adam Gemili who clocked 9.97.
Meanwhile, in the women's 100 metre hurdles, Dawn Harper-Nelson overhauled Brianna Rollins late on to win after Jasmin Stowers was disqualified due to a false start.
In the field, Sandra Perkovic of Croatia won the discus with a meeting record of 69.23 metres.
Poland's Kamila Licwinko took the women's high jump with a clearance of 1.97m, whereas in the pole vault, Fabiana Murer of Brazil went over 4.72 metres to secure victory.
However, the day's standout performance came in the men's javelin, and it was accompanied by a little controversy.
Kenyan Julius Yego has been a revelation this season and he produced a mighty throw, well beyond 90 metres, but the javelin landed just outside the legal zone.
It was ruled a foul but Yego appealed and the decision was overturned.
The throw was measured at 91.39 metres - the longest in the world this year and furthest throw in Diamond League history.
