Murray to face Djokovic in French Open semis

  • Intro:

Andy Murray beat David Ferrer 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 5-7 6-1 to reach the semi-finals of the French Open for the third time at Roland Garros on Wednesday.

    Script:

Andy Murray will play world number one Novak Djokovic for a place in the French Open final after the third seed sealed a hard-fought victory over Spain's David Ferrer.

Murray dropped the third set after squandering a match point, but the British number one produced his best tennis in the fourth set to win 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 5-7 6-1 on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

It was Murray's first victory over Ferrer on clay and meant he will now face Djokovic in, what will be Murray's 16th Grand Slam semi-final, after the Serb ousted nine-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal.

Nadal, on his 29th birthday, suffered his first defeat in six years and his second in 72 matches at Roland Garros.

Djokovic, boosted by becoming only the second man to beat Nadal here, is now just two wins from completing the career Grand Slam of all four major titles.
