Urban golf is currently becoming more and more popular across the world, and members of 'Heavy Ball Urban Golf Club', Hungary's first urban golf team, meet every weekend to practice.

Associations are springing up from New Zealand to Russia and the sport uses a lot of the same skills as regular golf but without the serious rules.

Urban golf courses are limited only by the players' imagination. It derives from the original game of golf, but rather than aiming for a hole, the target can be a rubbish bin, a lamppost, or a man-hole-cover.

In Budapest training takes place in various locations; from parking lots to parks.

Here nothing is written in stone, players can modify golf rules as they wish. Only some very basic rules matter, like don't play where it harms other people or their property and moving away if the play upsets residents or police.

Tamas Leiner explained more about the sport:

SOUNDBITE (Hungarian) Tamas Leiner, team member:

"This version of the sport is the total opposite of what the original one stands for. Here everybody can play without limitation of age or social status. This is much more free, no serious rules here, no dress code here. There are only couple of rules. Basic one is the safety of course, second one the fact that nobody is a better player than the other."

The Hungarian team is still very new. With hardware from eBay and with knowhow from youtube.

The team already has two international results though. One second place at a friendly against a Czech team, and 10th place at the European Urban Golf Cup in London in May.

But the Hungarian team has a long journey ahead if they want to improve

    Game on...
