Nadal to meet Djokovic in French quarter-finals

  • Intro:

Sixth seed Rafael Nadal overcame a fightback by the USA's Jack Sock on Monday to make it through to the quarter-finals of the French Open, while top seed Novak Djokovic defeated home player Richard Gasquet in straight sets.

    Script:

Rafael Nadal remains on course to extend his current French Open record to ten titles after dispatching Jack Sock on Monday - but not without difficulty.

After two relatively comfortable sets, Nadal lost the third to a determined Sock, but a break in the third game of the fourth set put the Spaniard on the road to victory.

In losing 6-3, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, Sock became the first player at this edition of the clay-court major to take a set off the nine-time champion.

Meeting Nadal in a blockbuster quarter-final is the world number one, Novak Djokovic.

The Serb defeated local favourite Richard Gasquet 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 to set up a rematch of the 2014 final in the last eight.

The French Open is the only Grand Slam event still eluding Djokovic, despite two previous appearances in the title match.
