  • Intro:

Justin Gatlin, Tyson Gay and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce were among the world class athletes taking part in the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene.

    Script:

This was some marker laid down by Justin Gatlin at the Prefontaine Classic, the fastest 200m of the year and equal to his best ever. He will be a formidible opponent for anyone at the Worlds later this year.

Gatlin has also ran the fastest 100m this year, he didn't take part in that race at this meeting but Tyson Gay did and won in a time of 9.88 seconds.

There was a really top class field in the women's 100m double Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce just about won it but she and Murielle Ahoure clocked the same time, the fastest so far this year.

There was also a close finish in the men's 3000 metre steeplechase double Olympic gold medalist Ezekiel Kemboi just sneaking home ahead of Jairus Kipchoge Birech.

That was another seasons best and so was this for Pascal Martinot-Lagarde in the hurdles.

Kirani James was a class apart in the mens 400 metres. The Olympic champion won easily in a time of 43.95 seconds, again the best this year.

It wasn't just on the track where athletes were making impressions, Mutaz Essa Barshim jumped 2.41m and that's the best anywhere this year.
