Liverpool Football Club held a memorial service on Friday for the 39 people killed in the Heysel tragedy exactly 30 years ago.

The scene was set for a classic European Cup Final between Liverpool and Juventus, yet turned into one of the darkest days in English football's history.

The English FA had made attempts to offer their condolences to services held in Turin, however they were denied by Juventus.

Despite this representatives from the Italian club were present outside Anfield.

And club chaplain Bill Bygroves had some poignant words for those in attendance at the service....

"Our purpose is threefold. Number one, it is to remember. Number two, it is to respect. Number three, it is to resolve."

The 1985 European Cup Final went ahead following a 2 1/2 hour delay because of rioting, with wide reports that lives had been lost during this time.

Phil Neal was Liverpool captain that day and admits he still cries over the Heysel disaster.

"As captain then, it was the hardest day of my life. We have to remember those people, and Bill Bygroves always picks the choice of words that sends me into tears even now."
