SOUNDBITE (English) Joe Root, England batsman:

"Absolutely. To score the runs that we did under pressure, to see guys like Ben (Stokes), (Mark) Wood step up in a high pressure environment. It's such a good atmosphere, massive crowd, it's really pleasing and it's something we want to take forward through the summer and especially here this week."

SOUNDBITE (English) Joe Root, England batsman:

"I say he's at the start of his career. He's a very exciting prospect. I've known him since he was about 13 years old and he's always been very similar in the way he approaches the game. He always gives absolutely everything on the field. You can see that in his performances. He's desperate to do well for England and he's desperate to do well for himself and long may that continue."

SOUNDBITE (English) Joe Root, England batsman:

"Without that innings, we wouldn't have won the Test match, simple as that. I thought the way he played was exceptional. He did all the stuff no-one else really likes to do and it's why he's so good, because under pressure, he performs and it's nice to see him back up a hundred in Barbados as well. To see him come into such form in such an important summer is fantastic and he'll be desperate to back that up again this week here."

SOUNDBITE (English) Joe Root, England batsman:

"I've never actually met Trevor (Bayliss), so it's going to be nice to get the pleasure to do that. He's got a great reputation, wherever he's gone in the world he's had success and hopefully he can bring that to English cricket as well."

SOUNDBITE (English) Joe Root, England batsman:

"Yeah, I think nine of the Australia squad he's worked with before in New South Wales so that obviously will be a slight advantage, but more than anything, it's just pleasing to see or be able to get the chance to work with, someone who's obvously been so experienced in international cricket and domestic cricket, whether it be one-day or first class stuff too."

SOUNDBITE (English) Joe Root, England batsman:

"Absolutely. We've obvously been through a tough time as a team and we've got a great opportunity now to go on and win this series. We can't get too ahead of ourselves, we know how well New Zealand are playing as well and we've got to make sure when we get the opportunity, first hour on Friday morning, we get off to a good start, because that's what's going to hold us in good stead throughout the five days and set the tone, so that will be our main focus, not looking too far ahead and just making sure we get things right."
