  • Intro:

Early player reaction on Wednesday (27th May) at Roland Garros.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Samantha Stosur, defeated Amandine Hesse 6-0, 6-1 (Q. You seemed to have a lot of clarity on court. Selections were quite impressive. Is that something to do with your new relationship again with your coach Dave?)

"Today, yeah, playing the player I was playing against, it was pretty clear straight up what I had to do, so I just tried to stick to that every game and go for it every single time. You know, I tried to work on a couple of little serve/volley things and couple other things as the match went on, feeling like you're in control of the match. Doing what comes pretty naturally is a good feeling."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Samantha Stosur, defeated Amandine Hesse 6-0, 6-1 (Q. You're facing Maria in the next round. That's a whole new challenge.)

"Yeah, look, playing Maria is always a big challenge for me. No matter what surface it's on, I don't have a very good record at all. Obviously we played last year. That's the last time we played against each other. So it's always a big challenge, and I've got to be ready to have to play, you know, as well or maybe if not better than what I have been doing. So it's one of those matches that's a tough matchup, but I know I've got, you know, the game that can trouble here, and hopefully I can do it well and we will see what happens."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Maria Sharapova, defeated Vitalia Diatchenko 6-3, 6-1 (Q. Facing Stosur so early in a tournament, it can be more than tricky. How do you see this match against her?)

"We faced in the fourth round here last year. I mean, I don't know if there is much of a difference really. She had a good win last week, I believe. She's always a tough opponent. She enjoys playing on clay, benefits a lot from this surface. Yeah, it will be a tough match. But, you know, I have a pretty good record against her. I enjoy our matches. I hope I can continue that."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Maria Sharapova, defeated Vitalia Diatchenko 6-3, 6-1 (Q. After two matches, what do you think is the part of your game which you would still like to improve?

"For me right now it's really about recovery and just being healthy for the next round. I played a lot of tennis and, you know, fortunately in the previous two tournaments, you know, this is not a stage where you're trying to fix things or work on things. It's really about maintenance and recovery and getting ready for the next match."
