    Colombia's Juan Pablo Montoya avoided a series of high-speed crashes and a terrifying pit lane incident that left two crew members injured, to claim the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500.

    Script:

    It's the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 and the race got off to a rocky start.

    This crash happened even before the first lap was completed.

    Then eventual race winner Juan Pablo Montoya was rammed from behind causing damage to his wing.

    On lap 64, Bryan Clauson, one of the world's top sprint car drivers ran out of room and hit the wall.

    Ed Carpenter andTony George experienced similar but more spectacular problems not long after.

    In pit lane, a terrifying incident left two crew members injured.

    Another high-speed wreck knocked three more cars out of the race with 24 laps to go.

    Through all of this Pablo Montoya methodically worked his way to the front of the pack after dropping to 30th.

    He held off teammate Will Power on the final lap to claim the IndyCar showcase race.

    "I've come here for 15 years now in all kinds of racing and to get another win here is pretty big."

    It's the Colombian's first Indianapolis 500 in 15 years after stints in Formula 1 and NASCAR.
