Kris Meeke dropped to fourth place in the Rally of Portugal, with the Briton now 43.5 seconds off the lead heading into the final stage.

The Rally Argentina champion lost time with a broken rear anti-roll bar and was overtaken in third by Andreas Mikkelsen.

Jari-Matti Latvala on the other hand was the epitome of consistency; stretching his overall lead to 10.3 seconds.

The Finnish Volkswagen driver was quickest in the 32.35km Vieira do Minho test to see off team-mate and closest rival Sebastien Ogier.

The Frenchman 2.5 seconds behind in second place.

Jari Ketomaa suffered a huge crash when he clipped the grass bank; the nearside front tyre of his Ford Fiesta came flying off but the Finn escaped unhurt.

The race concludes on Sunday with an 11.15km Power Stage through Fafe in Braga, north-west Portugal.
