Roger Bannister's iconic running shoes which we wore to become the first man to run a mile in under four minutes will be put up for auction in London.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Sir Roger Bannister, First man to break the four minute mile (on his running shoes):

"I could see that there was an advantage in having the shoes as light as possible so I arranged for GT Law of Wimbledon to make much lighter shows than they usually did. We managed to get the shoe down to four and a half ounces. I thought that I could make them even lighter by taking a grindstone and making the steel spikes thinner. As I was doing this in the laboratory in the medical school somebody who was walking past said 'you don't think that's going to make any difference, do you?' and I said 'well it might, it might.' They served me good purpose. I'm grateful to them."
