  • Intro:

World number 42 Dominic Thiem records a surprise defeat of second seed John Isner to reach the Nice Open final. Fourth seed Leonardo Mayer will be waiting on the other side of the net in Saturday's showpiece after beating world number 53 Borna Ćorić.

    Script:

Dominic Thiem will play Leonardo Mayer in the Nice Open final.

The Austrian said goodnight Vienna to John Isner 7-6 6-3 in a stunning victory against the second seed.

Thiem achieved the first break in the match after punishing an overhit drop shot by Isner.

But the American broke straight back in the following game to force a tie-break.

Isner's net play left a lot to be desired and Thiem's passing shot sealed the set.

The world number 42 then coasted to victory in the second.

Mayer booked his place in Saturday's showpiece after defeating Croatian Borna Coric 6-4 6-3.

The 28-year-old Argentine broke Coric in the tenth game to claim the opening set.

Before the world number 24 prevailed in the second after one hour and 27 minutes, exactly the same time on court as Thiem.
