Intro:
Arsene Wenger on Friday (22nd May) felt there were a combination of reasons for Raheem Sterling's current contraction discussion. Wenger was talking ahead of Arsenal's clash with West Brom at the Emirates on Sunday (24th May) in their final English Premier League game of the season.Script:
SOUNDBITE: (English) Arsene Wenger, Arsenal manager (Q: Does the fact that Theo Walcott hasn't been vocal about a new contract compare favourably with how things are being handled at Liverpool?)
"I don't want to single out people but discretion is the best way to deal with things, because once you go public it is very difficult to master and you have so many opinions and I can understand the media are interested in that. For us, honestly, it is always adding difficulties once it's public."
(Q: Would you be put off signing a player that causes such a problem at the club he's at?)
"I am not sure that it is the player that causes the problem, most of the time it's not the player that causes the problems."
(Q: When you bring the player to the club, then you bring the agent and those people around him, so they come as a package?)
"They come as a package, that's true, but the problems do not always come from the player, sometimes from the package."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Arsene Wenger, Arsenal manager (Q: How difficult is that going to be this weekend?)
"It will absolutely easy for us. We have fought very hard to have directly qualified in the Champions League and we want get over the line and finish the job, what we couldn't do on Wednesday night and we want to do it in a convincing way on Sunday."Shotlist:
