  • Intro:

Borna Coric reaches semi-finals of Nice Open. While Dominic Thiem and Leonardo Mayer both come through in straight sets, along with John Isner who played earlier in the day.

    Script:

The quarter-finals of the Open de Nice - the final tournament before Roland Garros - saw Dominic Thiem face the unpredictable Ernests Gulbis.

The pair had played eachother twice before with the Austrian Thiem winning on both occasions,

Thiem broke early and then an unforced error from the Latvian brought up a double break.

The World No 42 would win the first 6-2 and then another unforced error from Gulbis sealed the match 6-2, 6-4.

His semi-final with John Isner will be his first last four of the season.

Also in quarter-final action were the two Argentineans, Leonardo Mayer and Juan Monaco.

Mayer broke his compatriot and then at three break points was on his way to a first set 6-3 scoreline.

The World No 24 Mayer had never beaten his fellow Argentinean yet was dictating Monaco from the back of the court.

And it wasn't long before Mayer wrapped up the match.

6-3, 6-4. And Mayer will now play 18-year-old Borna Coric in the other semi-final.

Coric defeated Australian James Duckworth in straight sets.

The 18-year-old coming through a difficult second on tiebreak to reach the Nice semis.
