Record crowds as the European Tour's flagship event got underway on Thursday with the PGA Championship at Wentworth.
Conditions were perfect for low scoring and one of two hole in ones came from Andrew Johnston at the 10th.
Craig Lee of Scotland enjoyed the other ace at the second hole.
Martin Kaymer wasn't having the best of days, yet he produced one of the shots of the day here at the 13th.
The German finishing off for birdie and an incredible recovery.
He carded a level par round of 72.
Defending Champion Rory McIlroy won at the weekend on the PGA Tour and continued his form here.
The Northern Irishman with one of four birdies here at the 14th, yet he carded a one-under-par 71 for his first round.
Level with him at that mark is Justin Rose, the world number six.
His second shot at the eighth hole was one of the highlights of his round, leaving him with a simple putt for a birdie three.
And the man out in front: Francesco Molinari. The Italian with a bogey free 65, to lead by two shots at seven-under.
