Intro:
Blind pole vaulter Charlotte Brown talks about winning bronze at the Texas High School State Championships.
Script:
SOUNDBITE: (English) Charlotte Brown, pole vaulter:
"The one thing I always thought about , this story, so to speak, was that it really wasn't about me. It was about everybody that struggles with something and I think everybody does struggle with something and this just happens to be what I struggle with and I wouldn't say that it would necessarily be a big obstacle because there's always a way to overcome something. So I think if I could send a message to anybody, it's not about pole vaulting and it's not about track. It's about finding something that makes you happy despite whatever obstacles are in your way."
"I'm a firm believer in independence.Of course. I've got Vador to be more independent. That's something they preach at the "Seeing Eye" (guide dogs organisation) which is where I got him, which is independence and that's what I've always been taught. I think if there's a way to do something for yourself, I think that's a good idea. It's is also good to know when to ask for help. When I need to know when my socks match or not, it's probably a good idea to ask for help. If I can't find Vador, I'll probably need to ask for help."
