Romney and Holyfield step into ring for charity

  • Intro:

Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and five-time heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield squared off in the boxing ring at a charity fight night event in Salt Lake City on Friday (15th May) night.

    Script:

The world waited five years to see Floyd Mayweather fight Manny Pacquiao, but the lasting impression of the 'fight of the century' was, thank goodness there are still 85 years left in the century, plenty of time to find a better fight.

Two weeks on, and we might have found a more entertaining one as former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney stepped into the ring to take on five-time heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield.

The fight was in honour of Charity Vision, which helps doctors in developing countries perform surgeries to restore vision in people with curable blindness.

Politics also found its way into the bout, with one fan playfully shouting out "put Hillary in there."

There was room for more comedy, as Romney knocked the 'Real Deal' to the floor with his 'right hook'.

But that was as good as it got for the former governor of Massachusetts, his corner was forced to throw in the towel early in the second round, conceding victory to Holyfield.

The fun evening certainly left organisers with a smile, they claimed the event is expected to raise $1,000,000
