Second-seed Simona Halep looked on track to progress to the WTA Internazionali BNL d'Italia final after easily taking the first set 6-2 against Carla Suarez-Navarro.

But the 10th seed created trouble for the Romanian with her one-handed backhand and looping shots.

Aiming for her second career title, the Spaniard secured seven points to close out the second set 6-3.

The match lasted nearly two and a half hours.

And in a tight third set it was Suarez-Navarro who prevailed 7-5.

It's her fourth win over Halep.

She'll now face Russian third-seed Maria Sharapova in the final.
