It was quarter-final time at the Italian Open in Rome on Friday.

We start with second seeded Simona Halep who made very light work of Alexandra Dulgheru in the first match of the day.

Halep beat her fellow Romanian in under and hour 6-1, 6-0 to book her place in the last four of the tournament.

There she will face Carla Suarez Navarro.

This after the Spaniard produced some impressive tennis in her quarter-final against Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic.

Kvitova triumphed at the Madrid Open a week ago but was no match for her opponent.

The 10th seed receiving applause from all those present in the stands as well as Kvitova as she played a spectacular drp shot volley.

It was one of many wonderful shots by the Spaniard who won in a little over an hour 6-3, 6-2 to secure her semi-final berth.
