Italian Open: Djokovic progresses

Friday, May 15 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Novak Djokovic, Tomáš Berdych and Kei Nishorishi reach the Italian Open quarter-finals in Rome.

    Script:

Reigning champion Novak Djokovic came from behind to beat Thomaz Bellucci 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 and reach the Italian Open quarter-finals.

The top seed suffered an early scare when Bellucci capitalised on his first break point opportunity to clinch the opening set.

Djokovic responded with an early break in the second and didn't look back; prevailing in exactly two hours.

As actor Owen Wilson watched on, Djokovic will hope to stick to the script when he faces Kei Nishikori in the last eight.

The Japanese star beat Viktor Troicki 6-4 6-3 after capitalising on four of his 12 break point chances in the 89-minute clash.

The quarter-final berth marks Nishikori's best result in just his second main draw appearance in Rome.

Also into the last eight is Tomas Berdych; the Czech overcoming home favourite Fabio Fognini 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(2) in two hours and 35 minutes.

The sixth seed now faces the daunting task of second seed Roger Federer in the next stage.
