Number seven seed Ana Ivanovic was knocked out of the Internazionali d'Italia in Rome on Wednesday (13th May), losing her second round match against Daria Gavrilova in three sets.

The second round of the WTA Internazionali d'Italia in Rome continued with seventh seed Ana Ivanovic taking on Russia's Daria Gavrilova.

Ivanovic broke Gavrilova's serve in the 12th game of the opening set, taking it 7-5 in the process.

But the Serb slumped to a 3-0 deficit in the second before battling back to lead 6-5, Gavrilova then held serve to force a tiebreaker and stay in the match.

World number 78 Gavrilova won it 7-2.

She then opened a considerable 4-1 lead after the third set which also went all the way to a tiebreaker.

Ivanovic fought back again and saved a match point at 6-5, but Gavrilova wasn't to be denied and eventually took it 9-7 to win 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 and set up a third round meeting with Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky.
