    Script:

Andy Murray beat Rafael Nadal in straight sets to become the Madrid Open champion on Sunday.

Murray claimed an extraordinary 6-3 6-2 victory in one hour and 28 minutes as he dethroned clay king Nadal in front of his Spanish fans.

The 27-year-old was powerful, patient and aggressive, but still had to defend three break points on his way to taking the first set.

Nadal seemed to be recovering his composure after serving to deuce in the first game of the second set with a backhand half volley that the Scot was unable to reach.

However, Murray broke again immediately afterwards, and kept remarkable focus and determination. He took advantage of Nadal's errors to give him a 3-0 lead and eventual match win after the Spaniard hit his return into the net.

This is Murray's 10th Masters title of his career.
