"Well I will try and do as best as I possibly can - but you know you can't win the Giro after the time trial because it is going to be the last week with real mountain stages and that's where things will be settled."

"Look it is the same calendar as last year, so the last race of the last year was the Tour of Romandie and it was the same was this year. I went there to gain some rhythm after coming back to Europe from Colombia and I got in good condition for the Giro."

"The team did not bring me here to compete in every sprint - it's not the main objective of the team to have six, seven guys leading me out. We have Rigoberto here who was second here two years in a row, so I think we have the right to have some ambition, to try to win the Giro for the first time and my main role is to guide him through those first few weeks and also try to do well tomorrow in the team time trial, be one of the engines of the team and then if there is a chance, left or right, I will try to sprint."
