Rafael Nadal continued to work his way back to top form with a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 victory over Simone Bolelli in the third round of the Madrid Masters on Thursday.

The Spaniard, who is chasing his fifth Madrid title, earned his 21st win of the season as he converted four of his five break points against the 63rd-ranked Italian.

The win ensured Nadal of a quarter-final match-up against Grigor Dimitrov, a he has beaten on all 5 of their previous meetings.

Earlier, the Bulgarian had edged Stan Wawrinka in three tight sets 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-3 - his third win in a row over his Swiss opponent.

Putting together another strong clay-court run this week, Dimitrov crucially saved 10 of the 12 break points he faced to claim his 17th win of the season.

Sixth seed Tomas Berdych continued his strong record against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, dismissing him 7-5, 6-2 for his sixth win in eight against the Frenchman.

Berdych's excellent season has seen him reach at least the semi-finals in six of the seven tournaments he has played this year.

Meanwhile, the unseeded Nick Kyrgios came back down to earth with a bump just one day after the biggest win of his career.

The 20-year-old Australian saved two match points on his way to a a thrilling victory over three-time champion Roger Federer on Wednesday (6th May), but couldn't recreate that form against 16th seed John Isner.

The big serving American was made to work hard against Kyrgios but eventually prevailed - with the help of 20 aces - 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 6-4.

Isner will now face Berdych in the quarter-finals.
