    First round wins for Jack Sock, Roberto Bautista Agut and Richard Gasquet, while Stan Wawrinka books his place in the third round, in the late action from the Madrid Open on Tuesday (5th May).

    Action at the Madrid Masters continued with Jack Sock, one of five American's in the men's draw, playing Pablo Andujar of Spain.

    Sock is currently enjoying a career high ranking of 35 and he continued his strong start to the season with a 6-4, 7-5 win over the Spaniard.

    14th seed Roberto Bautista Agut also reached the second round.

    He was rarely under pressure in his match with Marius Copil of Romania, winning in straight sets 7-5 6-3.

    Frenchman Richard Gasquet took on the experienced Ivo Karlovic of Croatia in his opening round match.

    Gasquet contained his big-serving opponent well. showing the touch and finesse that has so long typified his game, Gasquet sealed the win 6-3 6-4 to set up a second round meeting with sixth seed Tomas Berdych.

    Eighth seed Stan Wawrinka has already booked his place in the third round.

    With the first set culminating in a tie-break against Joao Sous, the second set was just close though the Swiss player avoided having to contest a second tie-break.

    He took a 7-6, 7-5 victory and will face either Grigor Dimitrov or Fabio Fognini for a place in the quarter finals.
