  • Intro:

The cauldron for the 28th South East Asian (SEA) Games was unveiled in Singapore on Wednesday (6th May), marking the one-month countdown to the start of the Games.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Seah Chee Huang, Cauldron designer (on the factors that he kept in mind while designing):

"There were lot of such debate and discussion and in the end it was decided that this is a very significant event for Singapore. Twenty two years ago that we hold such a big event in the nation that engaged the entire region. We thought that, the committee felt that something more permanent that signifies this moment and also very important milestone for the nation, our fiftieth anniversary, we are 50 years old, that we should have something that can stand time and really more permanent."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Seah Chee Huang, Cauldron designer (on the reason for locating the cauldron outside the stadium):

"It's a very brave move from the committee to actually locate it outside the stadium itself. The stadium we are talking about is 55,000 of spectators enjoying or rather witnessing this whole lighting of the cauldron. But by placing it here you allow hundreds of thousands of people to witness it live. And I think that is a very unique kind of thing in terms of how you design the elements to engage the public and the community."
