SOUNDBITE: (English) Mike Hesson, New Zealand coach:

"As you're aware we don't do the scheduling but I think we're starting the earn the right now to play longer series than two Tests. That's something that looking forward we'd like to see happen and I know that our administrators are trying to make that happen. If we keep doing our job on the field then the rest of it takes care of itself.

"I think some of it has been performance. I think we've been down the pecking order in terms of our ranking. Often England have two tours so we get the early one and we tend to be a bit of a entree to the Ashes. That seems to be the way we've been used in the past. That's probably the way it's been but as I say, you have to earn the right for those extended series and I think you do that over a period of time. That's something we're looking to do.

"I think looking back to this test match two years ago we were in the game for three innings and we know that it can slip pretty quickly. We've hopefully learnt from that and we've certainly got a slightly more experienced group although there's still some pretty young ones. We've just got to hold it together for five days and that's our biggest challenge really."
