Toulon beat French rivals Clermont 24-18 at Twickenham on Saturday (2nd May) in the first European Rugby Champions Cup final to complete a hat-trick of European Cup titles.

    Script:

A stunning solo try from Australia winger Drew Mitchell clinched a historic hat-trick of European titles for Toulon.

France fly-half Camille Lopez kicked Clermont ahead and Wesley Fofana's try made it 11-3 as he ran on to the loose ball when Morgan Parra charged down Sebastien Tillous-Borde's kick.

But Leigh Halfpenny's boot and a try from Mathieu Bastareaud put Toulon in front and Halfpenny's conversion made it 16-11 at half-time.

After Halfpenny had kicked Toulon further in front, a superb converted try from Nick Abendanon moved Clermont to within a point.

Then came Mitchell's moment of magic to ensure Toulon became the first team to be crowned Champions of Europe three times in a row.

No expense has been spared by owner Mourad Boudjellal in assembling Toulon's all-star squad and, despite Jonny Wilkinson's retirement at the end of last season, they have emerged as the best club side in Europe yet again.
