  • Intro:

Post-match reaction after West Ham defeat Burnley 1-0 in the English Premier League on Saturday (May 2).

    1. 00:00 SOUNDBITE: (English) Sam Allardyce, West Ham United Manager:

(on the penalty/red card incident that saw Burnley defender Michael Duff sent off)

"It looked unfortunate yes. I think the penalty is no doubt and obviously converting that penalty for Mark (Noble) was very important on the basis that the last time we had one was the first game of the season and he missed it. And it has been obviously very important because we haven't scored any more goals than that - even though we should have scored a lot more, we didn't and we won 1-0. Again, they team has set out to make sure that the most important things (is) to try and get a victory for us at the moment because we are short of scoring goals. Even though we had 27 attempts at goal today and only scored one off a penalty, it just shows you that we have been a little lacklustre in front of goal and we have won it 1-0, should have won it by more. But that clean sheet has been the key factors in the last two games to get us back on winning ways."

    2. 00:48 SOUNDBITE: (English) Sean Dyche, Burnley Manager:

"It's a penalty, I'm amazed it is a sending off and wholeheartedly disappointed it is a sending off. I think there was a stadium full of people who were surprised it was a sending off. I can only imagine their manager was surprised it was a sending off. I don't know. The staff were certainly surprised it was a sending off, I think the subs were surprised it was a sending off. I think the groundsman was surprised it was a sending off, the linesman was surprised it was a sending off...I think there was a tube station nearby and that they were surprised it was a sending off - but other than that, not a problem."

    3. 01:22 SOUNDBITE: (English) Sean Dyche, Burnley Manager:

"I didn't think it was at that moment and when I have seen it back I am very very surprised that that is a sending off because he has not even got it under control. It is a penalty though - I must make that clear. I have got no problem with the fact that it is a penalty and you can usually tell. West Ham fans are not always forgiving off the opposition and I think they were amazed with the sending off and that is usually the measure of a moment - not always but usually."

    4. 01:44 SOUNDBITE: (English) Sean Dyche, Burnley Manager:

"I mean it sincerely, I am not trying to make everyone laugh. It is. I am a realist, I don't do blind faith, I don't do nonsense. I speak to the players with positive reality, as I call it. I am positive but there has to be a reality."
