Reaction from both managers after Aston Villa beat Everton 3-2 in the English Premier League on Saturday (2 May).

    1. SOUNDBITE: (English) Roberto Martinez, Everton manager:

"The tempo we had in our last game against Manchester United, maybe made it a bit difficult to start the game in the same level. I did feel in the first half we were second best in everything we did. Even in the way we keep the ball. The way we react to second balls. The way we defended with a poor intensity in our box. And it's fair to say probably, Aston Villa were the better side in the first half and we were the better side in the second half. We couldn't get through that poor period without damage. I thought the damage of giving a two-goal lead was huge. The first goal came from the left hand side in a typical profile where Aston Villa are going to be strong with Christian Benteke in the box. Ends up in the net which is very disappointing from our point of view. And then just lapses in concentration in the second phase in a dead ball situation, gets the game really difficult for us."

    2. SOUNDBITE: (English) Tim Sherwood, Aston manager:

"Delighted with the result. The performance was good. Performances have been good, really good. Like at the Etihad (Manchester City's stadium) we didn't come away with anything. I'd rather the performances weren't so great and we kept winning. But pleased to marry both of them together today."

    3. SOUNDBITE: (English) Tim Sherwood, Aston manager:

(about Tom Cleverley who is on loan from Manchester United)

"He's proved he's really focused on doing a job for Aston Villa. He shows the quality he has. He tirelessly works round the pitch. He's got more than that. He can can burst forward and if we find him - it was a terrific pass to find him - he showed a real cool head in front of goal. And two (goals) in two (games) now, so I'm waiting for the next one against West Ham."

    4. SOUNDBITE: (English) Tim Sherwood, Aston manager:

"I just think there were some heroic performances out there today. I thought Fabian Delph showed why he's probably, in my opinion, the best midfield player in the country at the moment."
