Oosthuizen through as Spieth and top players crash out

Sunday, May 03 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Lee Westwood beat Masters champion Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy also progressed on Friday (1st May) in the WGC Match play in San Francisco. Post round thoughts from Louis Oosthuizen and Danny Willett

    Script:

Q: Congratulations. Another tight match, down to the wires, you win it on the 19th hole. Just discuss the way this match went today because you were up, he battled back, you survived.

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Louis Oosthuizen

A: "Yes, I think both of us only made one bogey early on and then we were hitting good shots but couldn't make birdies and all of a sudden Bubba (Watson) went to three in a row and I was from two up going to one down so I had to fight at the end to get two extra holes because because, obviously, he's got 16 driveable, easy driveable for him and 18 so I thought it was a great match between the two of us and I am lucky to win."

Q: And 16 the pivotal hole here and you were able to drive the green and two-putt the winner.

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Louis Oosthuizen

A: "Yes, it was probably a little too short for him for a drive. He was taking a lot off it and I could see it. It was just a perfect number for me, a good tee shot which which pitched just on the green and, yes, I was lucky that it stayed on the line and didn't go in the left bunker."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Danny Willett

"Yes, we've had three great matches. Patrick (Reed) yesterday was a real tough one and then 'Sully' (Andy Sullivan) today not really let up too much. Luckily enough he let us off on the last shot."

Q: What are your thoughts about going into the weekend?

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Danny Willett

A: "I'm looking forward to it you know. It's a new format for me. Obviously in professional gold I haven't played matchplay for seven, eight years so...the game's in good shape, just looking forward to seeing how we go."

Q: Was there a tipping point today in your match with Andy (Sullivan)?

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Danny Willett

A: "No, we never really got more than one or two in it and I threw a couple of bogeys in there and Andy got back and then we threw some birdies on the back nine, which is pretty good and then, like I said, I was surprised that I took a half on the last."
