Roger Federer looked focused as he entered the court for this Istanbul Open quarter-final and he would need to be. He faced Daniel Gimeno-Traver who took him to a tie-break in the first set but the Swiss took it.

The next set also went to a tie-break and this one went to the Spaniard.

He now only had to hold his own to reach the semi-finals and he did just that.

Next up for the number one seed is Diego Schwartzman, he had a remarkable turnaround in his quarter-final against Santiago Giraldo. Losing the first set to love but taking the next 6-2, 6-2.

On the other side of the draw Grigor Dimitrov is safely through after beating Ivan Dodig 6-4, 6-3.

And he will meet Pablo Cuevas on Saturday after the Uruguayan saw off Thomaz Bellucci 7-5, 6-3.
