'Match Play is unpredictable' - Poulter

  • Intro:

Britons Ian Poulter and Rory McIlroy preview Wednesday's World Golf Championships Matchplay in San Francisco, America.

    Script:

    SOUNDBITE: (English), Ian Poulter:

"Obviously it is a new format, so I guess we are going to have to wait and see until Friday night how everyone feels of the change. Playing in a group of four guys, round robin, one guy out of the group of four moves on. I'm sure there is going to be one happy camper and quite a few unhappy ones. But that's the love of match play - if you get beat, you go home."

SOUNDBITE: (English), Rory McIlroy (overlaid with video):

"You can just get a guy who has just got really hot and you can play better than 85, 90 per cent of the field and you are going home. It's just the way it is. I feel like this just gives players a better chance to progress and if they are playing well, it seems like a bit of a fairer format, especially for an 18 hole match play. In tennis you feel like the top guys have a better chance over five sets in the slams rather than the three set tournaments - so it is sort of in the same way, where you feel like three matches the better player should prevail. Or at least the players that are playing the best golf that week."
