As the clay-court season continues this week at the Estoril Open in Portugal, 18-year-old rising star Borna Coric took on sixth seed Jeremy Chardy.

Coric may be the youngest player in the Top 100 of the ATP Rankings at 55 but he showed great maturity and resilience against Chardy, saving two of the three break points he faced in the match - and winning four of his own seven break-point chances before securing victory on his first match point.

The Croatian caused the first upset of the tournament, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 to progress to round two.

Elsewhere with the home crowd behind him, 20-year-old wild card entry Federico Ferreira Silva put up a good fight against Luxembourg's Gilles Muller.

Muller, ranked 45 in the world to Ferreira Silva's 280, cruised comfortably through the first set, winning it by six games to three.

But Ferreira Silva outplayed Muller in the second and forced the match into a decider.

This time Muller made no mistake, allowing his opponent just one game, advancing to round two 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
