World number one Ma Long makes winning start in Suzhou

    World number one Ma Long of China makes a winning start in men's singles at the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships in Suzhou, China on Tuesday (28th April).

    Script:

    World number one Ma Long of China took on Nosyad Alamiyan of Iran, ranked 100th, in the first round of the ITTF World Table Tennis Championship in Suzhou, China on Tuesday.

    After winning the first game 11-7, Long was involved in a spectacular rally with the Iranian early in the second game - Long winning the point to lead 3-0.

    Long, who recently regained the world number one ranking from his compatriot Zhang Jike, closed out the match in four straight games.

    In another match, Hong Kong's 18-year-old Kwan Kit Ho jumped out to a 3-1 lead against Marcos Madrid of Mexico.

    Ho, showing a lot of promise, defeated the Mexican in four straight games: 11-8, 17-15, 11-6, 11-6.

    In the women's singles, Lee Rou You of Malaysia lost in straight games to Petrissa Solia.

    The German won 11-3, 11-9, 11-4, 11-6.

    Thailand's Suthasini Sawettabut made an excellent start as she ran away with the first three games against her opponent, Shen Yanfei of Spain.

    The experienced Yanfei, however, mounted an impressive comeback to win through in seven games.

    England's Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Liam Pitchford was stretched as he beat Kailinikos Kreango of Greece in a tough seven games.
