Unheralded American Madison Brengle completed the semi-final line-up at the Porsche Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany on Friday (24th April) with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Caroline Garcia of France.

Madison Brengle versus Caroline Garcia completed the quarter-final action at the Porsche Arena on Friday.

The three previous last-eight encounters in Stuttgart had each been decided in two sets.

Brengle-Garcia went the distance, however.

Garcia, of France, clinched the first set with the loss of three games.

But her American opponent rallied.

Brengle - who had never before been in the quarter-finals of a WTA Premier series event - won 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, letting out a big scream of joy at match point as the French player hit a wayward smash.

The contest lasted just under an hour and 37 minutes.

Brengle will now play Germany's Angelique Kerber, who knocked out sixth-seeded Russian Ekaterina Makarova 6-3, 6-2.
