Toulon edge out Leinster in thriller

  • Intro:

Toulon beat Leinster 25-20 after extra time in the European Champions Cup semi-final in Marseille.

    Script:

Two heavyweights of European club rugby but only one place remaining in the Champions Cup final. Defending champions Toulon struck first in this semi-final in Marseille, Leigh Halfpenny kicked them in front, impressing the man who's boots he is filling in the south of France.

But Leinster have some handy points scorers of their own including Ian Madigan, he went past 100 points scored in Europe this season before kicking Leinster into a 9-3 lead.

Halfpenny responded with three more penalties before Madigan levelled it at 12 all. In the last minute Delon Armitage had the chance to send Toulon through... this is tension.... But that was well short and so the game went to extra time.

Toulon played much of that with a man in the sin bin but they led 18-15, then Bryan Habana pounced on a loose pass... It resulted in a huge try for Toulon, just look what that means to most of those at the Stade Velodrome.

The Irish side were given hope with five minutes to go, the maul seeing Sean O'Brien over the line.

A cat forced a short delay to give comedy to the drama. But the referee's whistle gave clarity to the final, it will be Clermont Auvergne against Toulon at Twickenham in May.
