Kelly Slater wiped out at Margaret River

Sunday, April 19 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Kelly Slater suffered a spectacular wipeout as he went out of the World Surf League Margaret River Pro quarter-finals to Adriano De Souza on Saturday (18th April).

    Script:

He may be considered the greatest surfer of all time, but even Kelly Slater couldn't match the size and power of the waves at the Margaret River Pro in Australia.

This spectacular wipeout during the quarter finals snapped his board.

The 11 time World Champion was up against Adriano de Souza, who he has only beaten once since 2010, and the American star looked set for defeat.

De Souza made the most of Slater's misfortune and won the heat.

He now advances to the semi-final.

The win also means he'll return home to Brazil next month wearing the yellow jersey after taking top spot in the Championship Tour rankings.

In the other quarter-final Hawaii's John John Florence defeated home wildcard Jay Davies to progress to the final four.

Davies had enjoyed a superb run in his first Championship Tour event.

He couldn't hold off Florence however, who scored a 9.20 on his final run to take the win.
