Edinburgh beat the Newport Gwent Dragons 45-16 on Friday (April 17) to reach the Rugby Challenge Cup final.

    Script:

Edinburgh were aiming to become the first Scottish team to contest a European final when they hosted Newport Gwent Dragons at Murrayfield.

And it was Edinburgh who scored the first try.

Flanker Stuart McInally plunged over to the right of the posts.

Eight minutes later, the hosts scored their second.

Scrumhalf Sam Hidalgo-Clyne showed plenty of vision to send winger Tim Visser gliding in for a try.

The Dragons some hope of making a comeback.

Brok Harris forced his way over from close range after a prolonged buildup to bring the Welsh outfit to within six points trailing just 21-16.

But that was as close as they got.

An opportunistic charge down try from Ben Toolis restored Edinburgh's lead to 10 points and they pushed on from there.

Hidalgo-Clyne made a superb break from outside the 22 and showed enough pace to cruise through the Dragons defence for Edinburgh's fourth try.

There was still time for a final flourish with Sam Beard making a clean break after Roddy Grant forced a turnover, and international winger Dougie Fife was in position to finish the move off.

Edinburgh duly ran out 45-16 winners to reach the final of the Challenge Cup where they will face either Gloucester or Exeter.
