SOUNDBITE: (English), Novak Djokovic:
"Ni hao Shanghai, ni hao China. I apologise for not being with you present tonight for the Laureus award. I am very privileged to be here and receive this award from your highness here in Monte Carlo. It has been a phenomenal 2014 for me, one of the best years of my life with the highlights of winning Wimbledon and regaining the number one in teh world - and of course, more importantly, becoming a father and getting married. So I want to thank you once again. It is truly an honour to hold this beautiful award and have a very pleasant evening."
SOUNDBITE: (English), Genzebe Dibaba:
"For me, for my family and for my country of Ethiopia I am so happy to win this award. Thank you."
SOUNDBITE: (English), Oliver Bierhoff:
"It is an international award and I think our team performed amazingly on the pitch but beyond that I think because of their behaviour on and off the pitch we were good ambassadors for Germany, the perception of Germans is perhaps different now. Finally the ugly Germans who before only played efficiently - now they play also in a sympathetic way."
SOUNDBITE: (English), Daniel Ricciardo:
"Good evening everyone. Sorry I can't be there this evening, I am preparing for my race in Bahrain. But just want to say it is an absolute honour to receive the world breakthrough of the year award. So thank you to the Laureus academy, I've been up against many a great athlete so it is a real privilege. 2014 is a year I will remember for a long time. Definitely a breakthrough in my mind as well. Standing on the top step of the podium a few times was the icing on the cake."
