    Script:

Former NFL player Aaron Hernandez has been sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty of murder.

The athlete, who once had a $40m contract at the New England Patriots, killed Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old landscaper who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee Shayanna Jenkins.

She and Hernandez's mother Terri both gasped and cried when the verdict was read out, there were tears too from Lloyd's mother.

The conviction of first-degree murder carries with it a mandatory sentence of life without parole in Massachusetts.

Judge Susan Garsh also sentenced him to between six months and three years for unlawful possession of a firearm and one year -- which he has already served -- for unlawful possession of ammunition.

Lloyd was shot six times in the middle of the night on 17th June 2013, in a deserted industrial park near Hernandez's home in North Attleborough.

Police almost immediately picked out Hernandez because they found the key to a car the NFL player had rented in Lloyd's pocket.

Within hours of Hernandez's arrest, the Patriots cut him, he was considered one of the top tight ends in the game.

He now faces even more legal trouble: As he is awaiting trial for murder charges in a drive-by shooting.
