  • Intro:

Number 13 seed Ernests Gulbis loses in straight sets against Andreas Haider-Maurer for the first shock of the Monte Carlo Masters.

    Script:

Ernests Gulbis lost six of his first seven tournament matches on hard courts this season, things haven't got better on the clay. He came into this Monte Carlo masters match as 13th seed against Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer.

He lost the first set 6-1 and the second 6-0. It took less than an hour.

These two were much more of a match Alexandr Dolgopolov won the first set against Borna Coric 7-5. The 18-year-old Croatian hit back to take the next by the same score but Dolgopolov finished strongly to take the decider 6-2.

It was more simple for number 15 seed John Isner, he beat fellow American Steve Johnson in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

And there was a dominant display from Roberto Bautista Agut. The number 12 seed saw off Benjamin Becker 6-0, 6-2.

The German did at least manage to win one more game than Gulbis.
