James Hinchcliffe triumphs for Schmidt Peterson racing team in the inaugural IndyCar Grand Prix of Louisiana.

    Script:

James Hinchcliffe took the checkered flag to win a wild and unpredictable IndyCar Grand Prix season-opener in Louisiana, America.

Team Penske's Helio Castroneves pitted early in the race; the Brazilian making contact with the lapped car of Francesco Dracone and sustaining front wing damage.

The last chance to race under green was cut short by a spectacular three-car wreck involving Simon Pagenaud, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Sebastien Bourdais.

Hunter-Reay squeezed Pagenaud onto a wet spot, causing the Frenchmen to slide onto grass and then back on track at the next turn. Pagenaud then broadsided Hunter-Reay and collided with Bourdais dangerously close to the cockpit before all three cars slid back off track and into a tire wall.

Canadian Hinchcliffe then won under a full-course caution ahead of Castroneves and third-placed Schmidt Peterson team-mate James Jakes.
