Ukrainian Premier League runners up Shakhtar Donetsk showed themselves to be worthy contenders for the top spot by demonstrating a 5-0 thrashing agaist Chornomorets in Lviv on Saturday.

The drama started before any of the goals came. Chornomorets defender Yaroslav Oliynyk was shown a straight red after dangerously high challenge on Ismaily.

The home side could only catch their break in the second half, when Douglas Costa's freekick ended up in the back of the net - after what seemed like a haphazard dive from goalie Martyshchuk.

And it seemed like something just clicked within the Shakhtar team then, because the goals just starting pouring in. Substitute Luiz Adriano turned in a Darijo Srna cross to double the score just 3 minutes later.

Taras Stepanenko fired in the third amongst a sea of Chornomorets defence.

The Brazilian Adriano got his brace with ten minutes to go with yet another neat finish from inside the penalty area.

And Shakhtar showed no intention of showing any mercy even in the dying minutes of the game. Luiz Adriano assisted Taison in the home side's fifth, and Shakhtar narrowed Dynamo's lead to 4 points.
