Norway's Alexander Kristoff won the Tour of Flanders in the one-day cobbled Classic.

The 27-year-old held off Dutchman Niki Terpstra in a sprint finish and Belgian Greg Van Avermaet took third place in Belgium.

A team service car clipped Trek's Jesse Sergent, leaving the New Zealander with a broken left collarbone.

More drama was to follow; Sebastien Chavanel flying onto his back after another service car crashed into the FDJ team car. Remarkably the Frenchman was unhurt.

Kristoff then comfortably powered clear in the final 200m to claim his second career victory in one of cycling's five Monument Classics and his 10th success of what has been an outstanding season.

The fans are so close to the cyclists that you can smell the beer on their breath. Kristoff will hope to enjoy the sweet taste of success again in next week's Paris-Roubaix Classic.
